TRADITIONAL FOOD HALKIDIKI - KASSANDRA
Who
hasn't heard of traditional Greek dishes? Or at least some of them? Maybe some
people are just discovering that eating at a table is each time turned into a
celebration, a truly wonderful gastronomic Greek
feast.
Greeks
have a cult for their cuisine. They are renowned worldwide for certain dishes
and drinks that delight people no matter how cranky or demanding he could be.
I am convinced that there is no man on earth who does not like them or at least
some of the Greek dishes. One can say that greeks appear to have a trivial "recipe":
eat natural, healthy and simple. Their cuisine is based on only natural products.
Greeks
know how to enjoy every moment and every dish prepared by them. They know how
to satisfy others that share their traditional food. They know just to enjoy life.
All products from the market are taken directly from the farmer so you can taste
its garden, like only fresh produce from the "Free" gastronomic wonders,
then we delight ourselves in the taste buds and make us come back every time with
confidence and pleasure.
From
natural and always fresh simple products like cheese (feta, for example), olive
oil and olives, fish, meat, more vegetables and fruits, and many spices of all
kinds, the tourists have realized what is called traditional Greek cuisine.
Surely
you all have eaten or even heard of traditional tzatziki salad, a delight, made
from plain yogurt, goat, cucumbers and garlic, lettuce or other well-known, all
pure Greek, required, I believe, to each meal: horiatiki, made from tomatoes,
cheese, onion, cucumber, Feta cheese customary, olives, sprinkled with plenty
of olive oil is another gastronomic delight and don't forget tyropithakia, a pie
filled with cheese. Who has not heard of mousaka, a dish made from potatoes and
eggplants, minced meat mixed with many spices, placed in layers and sprinkled
with cream.
-
At the terrace, a portion of food costs around 10 euros / person, € 5-6 a
salad and drinks are a little more expensive, 3-4 € - either juice or beer.
Portions are generous. - There are also supermarkets where prices are about
the same as in November, or places where you can get a giros for 5 € or a
sandwich for 2 €.
You
must try local fruits, especially during hot weather. I don't see what they could
eat besides fruit, salad or famous tzatziki.
Terraces on the beach don't have higher prices than the resort, so you can buy
without worrying: a beer is about € 3 or bottled water that is 3.5 €.
Under
the term "traditional sweets", in Greece you will find Loukoumi a delight
in a variety of flavors. The best known flavour is the rose. But you certainly
want to try halvaua with nuts, pistachio, vanilla or chocolate, which is completly
different than the Turkish delight. A sweet delight, very appreciated by children
is pastel, a cereal bar with sesame and honey. You will find many souvenir shops,
but some are expensive. You should look in shops or supermarkets. You will find
in abundance in smaller packages or larger as desired. We found that the most
expensive spice in the world is saffron red, made from saffron flower stamens.
Tens of thousands of flowers are required to make a few grams of this precious
spice.
